Caramel is a sweet and tasty ingredient desired by every sweet lover in their sugar-rich dishes. Caramel is a heated mixture of sugar syrup mixed with butter or cream to give it a thick and flavorful texture.
It’s heated until it changes its color, and the addition of butter and cream makes it more chewy and sweet when added to delicious dishes. We also know caramel in the form of candy very commonly loved by young ones and adults.
Caramel is considered an essential ingredient by many sweet chefs and patisseries who love adding extra sugar to their delicious dishes. Also, when we enjoy caramel on our sweets, one meal in particular is taken an interest in when we tend to make something quick and sweet; that is a Pie.
Yes, pies are yummy and enjoyable with caramel toppings along with inside additions by many people.
Pies are made from pastry dough casing that has fillings of multiple savory and sweet ingredients. Caramel pies come in both categories as caramel can also be flavored as saltish caramel for some pie dishes.
Usually, there are two techniques to make a caramel pie, the old-fashioned caramel making technique and condensed milk mixture technique. You chose either of them to create a scrumptious caramel-filled cake within your ease limit.
Today we will be sharing both techniques with you to make it easy to understand which method you will like best. Mostly people prefer old-fashioned technique by creating the caramel from scratch and then adding it to the pie but its time consuming and one needs to have a lot of time on their hands to make the dish perfectly.
You can choose whatever you like best by reading and following our recipe guide for the caramel pie recipe in the below description.
Doing it the Old-Fashioned Way!
Steps
1 Done | To start, preheat your oven up to 425 degrees and place in the pie crust set into its baking plate inside it. Bake it for 8 minutes and remove it from the oven to set aside. |
2 Done | Next up is our old-style caramel pie filling. To make that, add brown sugar, flour, salt, milk, half and half and egg yolks to the saucepan with a heavy bottom and 3-4 quart. Cook and whisk it on medium heat until it becomes creamy and thick. When done, remove the caramel mixture pan from heat and add vanilla extract. |
3 Done | Separately add granulated sugar and butter in a small skillet and cook it on medium heat. Stir continuously until the sugar melts and is caramelized. Remove from heat and pour slowly into the warm caramel cream mixture while whisking until it's mixed thoroughly. |
4 Done | Bring back your baked pie crust and pour the prepared mixture into it until it fills. Let it cool for 10 minutes on the counter and then add a piece of plastic wrap on top of the caramel portion of the pie. Put the cake inside the fridge for at least 2-3 hours overnight to allow the pie to become more firm. |
5 Done | Grab the whipping cream while the pie is setting and pour it in a bowl with sugar to whip. Whip it until it has stiff peaks and top it on to the pie. Your caramel pie is ready! |
6 Done | If you wish to eat gradually, store your pie in the fridge to keep its caramel filling stiff and hard otherwise, it will melt outside the cooling zone. |
